On Sunday, November 20th, The Bozeman Doc Series presents the Montana premiere of the award-winning documentary, Fire at Sea.
Over the past 20 summers, the tiny Italian island of Lampedusa, south of Sicily, has become a destination for tens of thousands of refugees fleeing wars, violence, and drought in Africa.
Combining harrowing rescues at sea and the plight of the migrants with everyday life in Lampedusa as seen through the eyes of a compassionate doctor who treats migrant casualties and a feisty pre-teen from a local fishing family, the film brings a human face to a crisis that has dominated headlines in recent years.
One of the year’s most critically acclaimed films, Fire at Sea is the first documentary ever to win the top prize at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival. Recently nominated for best feature documentary of the year awards by both the International Documentary Association and the Cinema Eye Honors, Fire at Sea is already generating Oscar buzz.
“Beautiful, mysterious and moving…Fire at Sea is masterly film-making.” The Guardian
Tickets are $10, $8 for students, at door, Cactus Records, Movie Lovers, and www.bozemandocseries.org
